Materialization Photographs. The International Survivalist Society (ISS) has an excellent group of photographs on their web site (www.survivalafterdeath.org/photographs.htm). These include pictures of Katie King who materialized through the mediumship of Florence Cook, other materialization photographs and many pictures of various ectoplasmic structures.

The pictures of King may stretch most people’s ability to believe. However, the experiments were held under strict test conditions imposed by Sir William Crookes, who recorded physical differences in complexion, hair coloring, height, heart-beat, blisters, skin type, face and finger sizes, plus manners and ways of expression between the materialized figure of Katie King and the medium, Florence Cook. All physical comparisons were different, proving they were two separate entities. Furthermore, Crookes would, on occasions, carry a florescent lamp with him into the cabinet and would often find the medium on the floor (in trance) and Katie King standing next to her. Mind-matter Interaction Phenomena. The Consciousness Research Laboratory, directed by Dean Radin, has studied mind-matter interaction effects on living and inanimate systems, precognition, correlates of apparitional sightings and “field consciousness” effects in groups.

They have studied whether thinking about someone at a distance affects their nervous system. The context of these studies is usually cast in terms of investigating “distant healing.” Conventional scientific procedures are employed, such as the use of randomized, counterbalanced, double-blind protocols. Their research has involved both individuals and groups, separated in some experiments by distance and in others by time. The results indicate that distant mental influence of the human body does occur in the laboratory under well-controlled conditions. From www.psiresearch.org/research.html

Ruling out Chance. At the University of Glasgow in Scotland, Professor Archie Roy and Tricia Robertson have spent many years researching mediums and their powers. Their latest work involves a ‘highly controlled' study of mediums, including the famous Scottish medium Gordon Smith, and their ability to give meaningful information to a recipient who was chosen at random and who was not seen. Professor Roy says that highly accurate information was given and that the probability that it was due to chance was one in a hundred million million million. Ruling out Telepathy. In a Daily Mail column titled, Yes, there is somebody out there and if you still don’t believe it read on…, Colin Wilson writes about the tests done on mediums by Gary Schwartz’s team at the University of Arizona. He noted that even after the outstanding results received in this study, some skeptics still fall back on the telepathy argument. He goes on to say, “So how can telepathy be ruled out? Here is a case in which the evidence is impossible to fault. In 1928, a man died in America after being crushed against a wall by a truck. Six years later, his brother attended a séance in which the medium said he was in contact with a man killed by a truck, and gave details that convinced the sitter that his dead brother was present.

“So far, this could have been telepathy. But then came a startling piece of information. The dead man said he had not died of head injuries as everyone had assumed, but of a complication that ‘came from the bone.’ His brother checked the hospital records which showed that the man died from a brain embolism caused by a blood clot from a broken bone.”

Psychic Detectives. The Court TV documentary called Psychic Detectives, shown on Feb.27, was a well done and fair representation of psychic’s who work with the police. There was not one critic or debunker in the whole show, which seems to be unusual nowadays. One interesting segment was about the classes given to law enforcement agencies to hone their intuitive skills. It is encouraging to learn that these people are interested in, and being given such classes. One rather humorous occurrence was that of an officer with no background in psi phenomena, who was dumbstruck after a remote viewing exercise in which he achieved nearly 100% accuracy. He was in such shock that he almost needed counseling. One can only hope that there will be additional Psychic Detective shows. We would like to see a follow-up on this officer to see if this experience has changed the way he looks at reality.

Russian Mystics. A February 8 report in the London Telegraph recounted that in Moscow alone there are “tens of thousands” of mystics offering New Age treatments, shamanic rituals and fortune telling services. Though banned under the Communists, these practices have flourished since the fall of the old regime. The Telegraph cited Russian Health Ministry statistics that showed there were more than 300,000 registered magicians, seers, fortunetellers, witches and sorcerers in the country in 2001. Ghosts Haunt Castle Workmen. Builders carrying out a renovation project at Edinburgh Castle, Scotland, claim their laborers are being disturbed by the ghosts of prisoners from the Napoleonic Wars. Photographs of renovation work at the Queen Anne building within the castle have captured hazy mysterious blue orbs floating above the builders’ heads. Many of the workers on the site have now refused to be left alone while working and some have requested a special canopy to shield them from the glare of ghostly eyes gazing down on them. Beneath the room that the builders are working in are the cramped vaults where many prisoners from the Napoleonic Wars died horrible deaths.

Proof of Survival. The article, Rosie by Ann Longmore-Etheridge, in this issue of the Summit, describes an encounter Ann had with a girl whom her mother knew and who had been murdered while she walked home form school. Ann experiments with Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP) and believes that she did record the girl’s voice. She is also a medium, and was able to contact the girl through automatic writing.
